To Honour Your Parents

“To Honour Your Parents”, this prose is about not being taken advantage and not being walked over. We must say no at times, but it doesn’t mean we are not honouring them, it’s a matter of taking care of yourself too before we get runned down.

To Honour Your Parents

To honour your parents, does not mean to be walked all over the place…
To honour your parents, does not mean to be a door mat for them…
To honour your parents, does not mean to be part of their abusive behaviour…
To honour your parents, does not mean to be disrespected by them…
To honour your parents, does not mean to be manipulated by them…
To honour your parents, does not mean to be controlled by them…

But,

To honour your parents, it does mean to be respected by them…
To honour your parents, it does mean to be loved by them…
To honour your parents, it does mean to be pleased by them…
To honour your parents, it does mean to be giving back to them…
To honour your parents, it does mean to be helpful to them…
To honour your parents, it does mean to be appreciated by them…

And Finally,

To honour your parents, it does mean to be grateful by them.

We honour our parents, because that’s what the bible says to do. When we have been respected all our lives, we want to give back to our own parents as they get older, we would like to treat them the way we were treated with love. When we were treated badly in life by them, and sometimes it can be hard to honour them, because of all the hurt we have endured. If that hurt continues, we are not to honour those negative experience, but the positive ones. It works both ways in the end, because we in the end as kids growing up learned how to treat ourselves, family and friends, but it first starts at home. So, let us start honouring our kids the way we want to be treated, so they know how to honour their parents as they grow up.
